Dallas Program Facilitator

Martha "Mo" Morrison grew up in North Texas, in a close-knit family with two siblings. Her life plan, one that her family expected of her, was to attend college, get married and live a quiet life. After high school graduation, she attended one semester of college as a promise to her parents. With a desire to serve her country since September 11th, Mo knew college would have to wait and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2005.

Mo was stationed in Camp Pendleton CA from 2006-2010. In 2006, she was in a non-deployable unit, Weapons Field Training Battalion, Edson Range. In 2009, she received Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) and deployed with the 11th MEU. She served in reserve status at the 4th Supply Battalion, 4TH MLG in Raleigh, Marine Aircraft Group-41, and Combat Logistics Battalion 451 in Charlotte, NC. After her time in the reserves, she decided she wanted to join the active force again and was accepted to serve at Wounded Warrior Battalion-East in Camp Lejeune, NC from 2016-2019.

After her honorable service, she decided to hang up the boots and join the civilian workforce, and move back to North Texas with her two children. The transition seemed easy until a stressful life event, divorce, changed her life. She realized and decided that she needed to work on herself and her own happiness.

Mo heard about MVP from a neighbor, Charles Ali. When Mo saw a social media post about MVP that Charles made, Mo realized it was exactly what she needed. Though she has a supportive family and great friends, she still felt that she was missing the camaraderie of being surrounded by her brothers and sisters in arms. With every weekly MVP session that Mo attended, she felt more healed, supported, and at home.

"We are a group of like-minded individuals with different experiences, and we can learn from one another. I used to wonder what veterans and former professional athletes have in common but now I don’t. We go through similar transitional issues and yearn for the same support from our teammates. I am beyond fortunate to be a part of an organization where the mission is focused on support, personal development, and a sense of belonging."
