Armando Mejia

Recovery Care Coordinator, Army Recovery Care Coordination Division

U.S. Army veteran, Staff Sergeant, Armando Mejia, currently works for the U.S. Army Recovery Care Coordination Directorate in the U.S. Army Recovery Care Program. In this role, he provides services and support to the Army’s most severely/seriously wounded, ill and injured Soldiers/Veterans and their Families. The mission is to assist and advise our wounded warriors’ as they adjust to their new norm. Previously, he was the Senior Global Engagement, Community Investor in the Puget Sound. In this role, he led Boeing’s “Our Heroes” portfolio in Washington state, an opportunity for him to continue his service to our military and veteran’s community through engaging The Boeing company and its employees in the important work being led by local nonprofit partners. Armando’s leadership and engagement with the local military community is highly regarded, and he brings a sincere passion to his work and his relationships.

As a U.S. Army, Purple Heart combat veteran, having served almost 12 years, Armando brings personal experience and authenticity to his role,  external partnerships with veteran’s service organizations. His background has allowed him to directly engage with many of the workforce transition and recovery and rehabilitation programs in the community as a customer, a supporter, a partner, or a volunteer. This personal and professional connection to the work is valuable for expanding on The Army Recovery Care Program’s deep commitment to our military, veterans, and their families.

Armando completed both a Master’s in Social Work and Bachelors in Social Welfare from the University of Washington, Tacoma. Prior to the Army Recovery Care Program, Armando’s experience has taken him to Boeing, Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Sounders FC, AW2 Wounded Warrior Program and the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound. 

He has applied the combination of his personal and academic experiences to a variety of military events as a guest speaker and advocate to military service members, families, and communities within WA. His community service, numerous hours of volunteer work and making a difference in the military community was recognized in 2009, by Pierce College and was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award and in 2017 was awarded the Outstanding Service to Veterans Award, by the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs. 

With the support of his beautiful wife, Melinda, and their two sons Alexavier and Nehemiah, and his princess, Anneliese, Armando continues “Helping others, which has been a healing process for him”.
